Walking isn’t only good for our physical, social and mental health. It’s also good for our communities, the environment and the economy.
We support and inspire people in Scotland to walk and wheel more.

Head of Communications and External Affairs
At Walking Scotland, I lead communications, public affairs, monitoring and evaluation as well as external engagement to inspire more people to walk, wheel and lead healthier, active lives.
I’ve spent more than a decade using creativity and strategic thinking to amplify important causes across the charity sector. In 2020, I was awarded the Inspiring Communicator Award for my innovative and impactful approach to communications at Health in Mind, a mental health charity. Today I’m committed to ensuring Walking Scotland reaches the widest possible audience, influences policy and inspires communities to embrace walking and wheeling as part of daily life.
Alana joined Walking Scotland in January 2024.
Alana shares how she adds walking into her day:
“I live and work in the same city so when I’m in the office, I walk to work and back home. It gives me a chance to get ready for the day and to switch off at the end of it. I’m never without my brolly!
For days when I’m working from home, I try to make a couple of meetings phone calls so I can get up and walk around. Walking helps me to think and sparks my creativity.”
