Walking isn’t only good for our physical, social and mental health. It’s also good for our communities, the environment and the economy.
We support and inspire people in Scotland to walk and wheel more.
Walk. Connect. Change your world.
The top destination for walking tips, tools and inspiration.
We advocate for inclusion and share the latest policies and data to help make Scotland a walking nation.
By focusing on walking and wheeling, we’re helping to solve some of Scotland’s biggest challenges, from health inequalities to the climate-nature emergency.
Walking connects to a wide range of policy areas.
We help shape national policy by sharing our expertise and evidence. We respond to consultations, produce policy briefings and actively take part in forums, working groups and cross-party groups in Parliament. We also look for ways to make sure the voices of individuals and communities are heard, so their real-life experiences help shape decisions that impact them.
We work closely with academic institutions to support and promote the development of research and evidence on walking and wheeling.
In 2023, we published the results from our national survey of attitudes to walking and wheeling in Scotland.
The survey provides a picture of how adults in Scotland are participating in walking and their attitudes towards it. It updates information last collected by us in 2019 and complements other sources of information such as the Scottish Household Survey and Scotland’s People and Nature.
We’re busy working on an updated survey and report which will be published in autumn 2025.
We work closely with our partners Cycling Scotland to capture journeys on foot across Scotland.
The Cycling Open Data portal provides real-time walking and cycling data in one place. It pulls data from bike and pedestrian counters that are placed on walking and cycling routes across Scotland.
