Walking isn’t only good for our physical, social and mental health. It’s also good for our communities, the environment and the economy.
We support and inspire people in Scotland to walk and wheel more.
Walk. Connect. Change your world.
The top destination for walking tips, tools and inspiration.
As we head into our 30th anniversary year in 2026, we’re sharing why we’re confidently walking under a new look and name.
Names signal purpose, shape perception, and invite people to get involved. That’s why our name change from Paths to All to Walking Scotland marks more than just a cosmetic change. It’s a bold step forward in our nation’s journey toward healthier, more active lives.
This isn’t a rebrand for the sake of it. It’s the result of a collaborative process rooted in listening, learning, and evolving. As Scotland’s relationship with walking continues to grow, so too must the organisation that champions it. We’re not only changing our name. We’re raising our voice.
Research and feedback told us that people love our mission but did not instantly understand it when they heard or saw the name Paths for All.
When speaking to people, many thought we only built or maintained physical paths, whilst others thought the name meant we helped people with their career paths. It wasn’t clear. Nor was it clear we were a charity.
So with our work and impact growing, so did the realisation that we needed a name that clearly reflected the power of walking and the full scope of what we do as a national charity.
When Paths for All launched in 1996, the focus was on path work and access to the outdoors. Over the years, the organisation grew into a national voice, not only supporting local paths and Health Walks but also leading policy work and behaviour change campaigns across Scotland.
We played around with different ideas, but conversations internally and externally led us back to one clear option. Walking Scotland. It was the name that best captured our past, present and future.
The new name, Walking Scotland, is simple, direct, and powerful. It instantly tells people the organisation’s purpose and our national reach.
Our strapline ‘your walking and wheeling charity’ shows our commitment to inclusion. It resonates with parents pushing buggies, older adults using walking sticks, wheelchair users who wheel. Everyone.
To us, Walking Scotland is more than just a name. It’s a shared vision. It’s about making Scotland a place where walking is second nature. Where villages, towns and cities are designed with people in mind. Where walking is not just for the fit or the fortunate but something everyone can enjoy, regardless of age, income, background or the barriers they face.
Walking Scotland is about the school run on foot, workplace lunchtime walks, Sunday strolls in the park, and long-distance walking adventures. It’s about health, happiness, connection, and choice. For the positive impact on our people, places and planet.
Becoming Walking Scotland does not change who we are at our core. It simply makes it easier for people to find us, understand us, and walk with us.
Our values of ambition, integrity, collaboration and innovation remain at the heart of everything we do. And we ensured they remained clear in the path we took.
We started with a deep breath and by asking hard questions. After many conversations and cups of tea (peppermint), we decided it was time.
The rebrand was the result of a year-long engagement and reflection process. We partnered with Morton Ward, a creative agency based in Edinburgh, to test language, imagery, and messaging. They took us on a journey of discovery, creation and coherence as part of the process and got to know the charity and our people very well!
The journey included:
We hope that those involved can see their fingerprints on the end result.
We took an agile approach throughout the process. Testing, learning and adapting. And that will not stop now that we have officially launched our brand, name and website.
We’ll keep learning, listening, and adapting because this isn’t our journey alone. It belongs to everyone who walks in, through, or for Scotland.
As Walking Scotland, we’ll continue everything we’ve been doing, just with a clearer message and renewed energy.
The name has changed, but our direction is the same: forward, together.
As Scotland commits to tackling the climate-nature emergency, improving public health, and building stronger, more connected communities, walking has never been more important.
We cannot wait to see where the next stretch of the path leads us. But we know one thing. It will take us forward.
Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or just discovered us on your first stroll, we’re glad you’re here. We’re excited to walk into this next chapter with you.
Walking Scotland invites everyone to join us, because every step matters.
