Walking isn’t only good for our physical, social and mental health. It’s also good for our communities, the environment and the economy.
We support and inspire people in Scotland to walk and wheel more.
Walk. Connect. Change your world.
The top destination for walking tips, tools and inspiration.
With excitement building around major sporting events this summer, the challenge offers a simple and inclusive way for people to be part of the action, no athletic ability required. Last year’s national Step Count Challenges saw participants record over 2.6 billion steps, showing a huge appetite across Scotland for accessible ways to get active.
Danielle, who took part in a previous Step Count Challenge, said the experience transformed her daily routine. “Instead of taking a coffee break, I now take a walking break. I went from averaging about 2,000 steps a day to over 10,000, and I’m really proud of myself.”
She added that the benefits extended far beyond physical activity, “Getting outdoors, rain or shine, has done wonders for my mental and physical health. This former sedentary stepper is genuinely excited to do it all again.”
The challenge is designed to help people build healthy habits in a fun, flexible way. Walking and wheeling remain among the most affordable and accessible forms of physical activity, with even small increases shown to boost wellbeing and happiness.
Rachael Prothero, our Corporate and Community Fundraiser, said, “We love hearing how the Step Count Challenge has inspired people to walk and wheel more in their daily lives. With Scotland buzzing from a packed summer of sport, there’s no better time to join in and feel part of the action. Everyone is welcome to take part, at any pace, and feel the benefits.”
