Walking isn’t only good for our physical, social and mental health. It’s also good for our communities, the environment and the economy.
We support and inspire people in Scotland to walk and wheel more.

Step it Up is our strategy for the future.
Our Step it Up strategy sets out our vision for making Scotland a walking nation. We want everyone to have the opportunity to walk and wheel, creating a happier, healthier, greener Scotland.
Our mission is to support people in Scotland to be active every day. We believe walking and wheeling is the best way to do this.
We want to get Scotland walking:Everyone.Everywhere.Every day.
We want everyone in Scotland, no matter who they are or where they live, to benefit from walking and wheeling.
We want our places and spaces to be safe and attractive for everyone to walk and wheel in, everywhere.
We want everyone in Scotland to feel motivated to walk and wheel every day.
Walking and wheeling are vital to addressing some of the greatest challenges of our time.
Launched in 2022, our Step it Up strategy sets ambitious goals for our organisation and for Scotland. It is structured around the four key objectives in the WHO Global Action Plan for Physical Activity.
changing social norms and increasing positive attitudes towards walking and wheeling.
making places and spaces safe and attractive for walking and wheeling.
strengthening leadership, partnerships and policy to make Scotland a walking and wheeling nation.
encouraging behaviour change and participation in daily activity through the right programmes, infrastructure and community opportunities.
Our strategy also contributes to and is informed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for Scotland, Scotland’s National Performance Framework; and Scottish Government’s Physical Activity for Health Framework.
Our impact: we have four high-level strategic outcomes, linked to our objectives, to ensure we can measure and share our progress and impact.
