Walking meetings
Walking is a simple activity to promote in the workplace. It fits in easily around the working day and has benefits for our physical and mental health.
What is a walking meeting?
Walking meetings are a simple, yet dynamic way to hold workplace discussions. They take place on the go, rather than in the confines of a meeting room or online. Walking meetings also encourage colleagues to talk in a relaxed, engaging and open way.
Walking meetings are typically held outdoors but can also work in spacious indoor areas.
Why should you consider a walking meeting?
Walking meetings benefit you, your colleagues and workplace by:
• helping you meet daily physical activity goals, while reducing sitting time
• boosting mental health and wellbeing by reducing stress, and improving mood and focus
• enhancing brain function, problem-solving, and creative thinking
• creating stronger connections through more natural communication.
When could you use a walking meeting?
Walking meetings are generally informal. Suitability will depend on the nature and purpose of your meetings, and number of colleagues taking part.
They are ideal for small group brainstorming sessions, check-ins and one-to-one discussions.
We updated our brand and name in June 2025 to Walking Scotland. We’re still working to update everything with our new branding. This means you might spot our previous, Paths for All, branding in places, and some links in downloads might not work as they should.
If you have any problems, let us know and we’ll help as best we can. You can also sign up to our newsletter to be the first to know when we publish updated and new resources and guides.
