Walking isn’t only good for our physical, social and mental health. It’s also good for our communities, the environment and the economy.
We support and inspire people in Scotland to walk and wheel more.

Director
Brendan is the Director of Ramblers Scotland and a keen hillwalker.
At the Ramblers he has helped create or develop a series of programmes to help more people from a wider variety of backgrounds to enjoy the outdoors, usually starting from their doorsteps. The Out There Award helps young adults from diverse backgrounds to build outdoor skills, confidence and social connections. The Community Outreach Project engages with refugees, asylum seekers and people from global majority communities. He is now working on a programme of outreach to engage adults in some of Scotland’s least well-off communities.
Prior to moving to Edinburgh, Brendan had a 20-year career in voluntary sector communications in London, where his last job was as Director of Communications at the Disasters Emergency Committee. This included transforming the way the organisation used digital communication tools and platforms.
Brendan joined our Board in October 2019.
Brendan shares why walking is important to him:
“Walking is one of the main ways I connect to the outdoors and that connection is a key part of how I make sense of my place in the world. It’s also one of my preferred ways to spend time with people, whether they are folk whose lives I want to understand better, colleagues, friends or family.”
