New path is vital link to local services and greenspaces in Dunfermline

“This project has transformed the pathway into an accessible, inclusive, and user-friendly route for the entire community.”

In summer 2024 a new path through St. Leonards Park in Dunfermline was completed, thanks to funding from our Ian Findlay Path Fund.

The path was steep and uneven and didn’t connect with other paths. It was overgrown with poor lighting, meaning locals didn’t feel safe walking there after dark.

The Brucefield Tenants and Residents Association applied to the Ian Findlay Path Fund to build a path that more people could use throughout the year. A longer gentle slope was created, with handrails and benches so that people can pause along the route. New lighting means the path can safely be used all year around.

Residents can now walk, wheel and cycle for short local journeys and connect to nearby schools, greenspaces, the health centre and local bus networks.

Local school children now use the path instead of having to walk alongside a dual carriageway and crossing two busy main roads to get to school. By improving paths and environments we can make walking and wheeling everyday a reality for everyone. Our Ian Findlay Path Fund, our resources and expert staff make these improvements possible.
