Walking sports are slower versions of the games we love. They are becoming increasingly popular in Scotland.

Walking sports help people get fit and maintain an active life whatever their age. They support people getting back into sport if they have given it up due to age or injury. Most importantly, they are fun!

The sports include walking football, rugby, netball and golf. They bring physical and mental health gains, and social benefits. Making new friends and having a chat over a cup of tea after the game is all part of the experience.

Walking Scotland and walking football

Did you know, we led the development of walking football in Scotland, with Age Scotland, SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health), Scottish Football Association (SFA) and the SPFL Trust?

We helped set up Walking Football Scotland a charity dedicated to the growth of the game in Scotland. They work to improve, maintain and promote the physical, mental and social wellbeing of older adults through Walking Football.

Walking Football Scotland’s Scottish Cup and Festival is the biggest one-day walking football event in the world.
