Walking isn’t only good for our physical, social and mental health. It’s also good for our communities, the environment and the economy.
We support and inspire people in Scotland to walk and wheel more.

In 2024, Cassiltoun Housing Association were awarded £90,000 from our Ian Findlay Path Fund, to improve a key pathway through Castlemilk Park.
The path had no lighting and often flooded. In winter, the standing water would regularly ice over, and locals would avoid it completely. The alternative path was too steep and difficult to use by anyone using a wheelchair, with mobility issues, or pushing prams. Locals wanted to walk to school, work or to access local bus and train services safely. Residents also wanted to get to the community space, and care for family members living nearby without having to use taxis or buses to get around the outskirts of the park.
Working with Glasgow City Council, Friends of Castlemilk Park and others, the path was transformed. Lighting installed and drainage improved, making the route accessible year-round. Residents can now use it to get to those essential services.
In December 2024 the footfall counters installed in the park recorded a 189% increase in footfall compared with the previous year. This demonstrates the impact that an improved path can have on getting more people walking and wheeling.
“We would not have been able to deliver this project without the funding and support from IFPF. The work that has taken place has provided a long-term solution and has dealt with an issue identified by the community in 2009.”
