Walking isn’t only good for our physical, social and mental health. It’s also good for our communities, the environment and the economy.
We support and inspire people in Scotland to walk and wheel more.
Walk. Connect. Change your world.
The top destination for walking tips, tools and inspiration.
Since retiring, Angela never goes on a walk in her local area without her trusty litter picker.
She walks short journeys around her neighbourhood, picking up any litter that she finds along the way.
She finds that litter picking on a walk is a great way to connect with people, as she’s always asked about it. Often, she can persuade others to join in. Whenever she steps out with a friend, she brings a litter picker along for them.
“It’s a great way to connect with people – they’re always curious about my litter picking!”
When Angela sees others out walking, she always makes sure to say hello. She knows that she might be the only person they chat to that day. Angela also joins a local walking group on a weekly basis, where she connects with like-minded locals.
“I feel like I’ve had a breath of fresh air, whilst helping the neighbourhood.”
Angela also feels the physical benefits of walking. She says that regular walking helps her stay active and healthy. She loves discovering new ways to elevate her walking routine. If she reads about a new trend, such as Japanese walking, she’ll try it out. Mixing it up keeps her motivated.
“I’m always out longer than I expect.”
Why not pick up some litter on your next walk? It’s a fantastic way to make a real impact on your local area. All you need is a pair of gloves and a bin bag. If you have a litter picker, this can be helpful too.
