Walking isn’t only good for our physical, social and mental health. It’s also good for our communities, the environment and the economy.
We support and inspire people in Scotland to walk and wheel more.

The Waterlip Pathway in Darvel had been through many restorations over the years, but a lack of lighting and rest points meant use of the path was still limited for many.
Darvel Area Regeneration Team applied for our SPT Community Path Fund to install solar lighting along the pathway. They wanted locals to feel safe using the route during darker evenings and winter months.
This improvement means that more people will be able to choose to walk or wheel with confidence.
The community response has been overwhelmingly positive.
“I just love to stroll in the evening guided by the lights.”
This grant also funded the installation of a seating area by the path. A favourite place for many of the locals to sit and enjoy the view along the Glen Water, the bench provides a point of rest.
“I can now get to the Waterlip bench in my wheelchair and enjoy the view.”
Work was carried out in the early months of 2026. The final stages will be the installation of an information board, so visitors and locals alike can learn more about the area.
“The transformation of the pathway has been wonderful, and the solar lighting is a real bonus.”
