A brighter path for Darvel

Solar lighting and new seating breathe new life into the Waterlip Pathway.

A collage of 2 images. 1 shows the path lit up at night time by solar lights and the other image shows a roller creating a smooth path surface.

The Waterlip Pathway in Darvel had been through many restorations over the years, but a lack of lighting and rest points meant use of the path was still limited for many.

Darvel Area Regeneration Team applied for our SPT Community Path Fund to install solar lighting along the pathway. They wanted locals to feel safe using the route during darker evenings and winter months.

This improvement means that more people will be able to choose to walk or wheel with confidence.

The community response has been overwhelmingly positive.

This grant also funded the installation of a seating area by the path. A favourite place for many of the locals to sit and enjoy the view along the Glen Water, the bench provides a point of rest.

Work was carried out in the early months of 2026. The final stages will be the installation of an information board, so visitors and locals alike can learn more about the area.

This project shows the big difference that small improvements can make. Thoughtful upgrades to a popular route mean more people in Darvel can choose to walk or wheel.
