Walking isn’t only good for our physical, social and mental health. It’s also good for our communities, the environment and the economy.
We support and inspire people in Scotland to walk and wheel more.
Walk. Connect. Change your world.
The top destination for walking tips, tools and inspiration.
Residents of all ages rely on the path to access the local school, shops and other trails and walking routes. Thanks to the upgrades, people of all abilities can now use the path safely, whether walking or wheeling.
Before the upgrades, the lane had fallen into a dangerous condition. Deep potholes, overgrown vegetation and trees at risk of falling made it difficult to access for many. To improve the walking and wheeling conditions, a new drainage system was installed, potholes were filled and a smooth layer of road planing was spread.
The result was a level, well-maintained path that the community can use safely.
“As someone who is partially sighted it was problematic using the lane. Now it’s much easier and safer.”
The project also provided a chance for the community to come together. 38 volunteers worked to clear overgrown vegetation. The volunteering events were sociable, bringing neighbours together and forming new friendships.
“It was wonderful meeting so many new neighbours during the workdays.” ”
The final stages of the project will be the installation of an information board, so visitors and locals can learn more about the area.
“How lovely it is now to be able to walk with the buggy or baby carrier safely on the lane – it’s opened up a new route and new places to explore.”
