Fiona’s walking story (University of Strathclyde)

“I would encourage anyone to get their work colleagues involved – there is fun to be had and prizes to be won!”

Fiona took part in the Autumn 2024 Step Count Challenge, her fifth challenge as part of the Alumni and Development Department at the University of Strathclyde. Fiona’s team created a video for their Instagram account to show the teams routes and achievements. This was a great way to motivate others and share their experience.

New starts at the Uni mentioned that taking part in the challenge helped them get to know team members and settle into their new role. As well as a good way to strengthen your workplace relationships, taking part in the Step Count Challenge can support fewer sick days, boost mental wellbeing at work and contribute to a positive working environment.

Being at a desk for most of her workday, Fiona found that taking part in the challenge, along with encouragement from her teammates, helped her get out walking before work or at lunch. Seeing her name at 5th place on the leaderboard also helped motivate her!

As someone who likes to stay active, both through walking and sports, Fiona appreciated the Step Count Challenge in autumn because it helps keep her moving in those darker months.
